ABOUT SHINJI ONO

On 27th SEP.1979, SHINJI was born in Numazu city in Shizuoka prefecture.
He began playing football when he was eight as a member of the IMAZAWA S.S.S.
At the age of 15,SHINJI joined Japan Junior Youth Team, which won AFC Asia Juniour Youth Championship in Thailand, achieving the ticket to FIFA U-17 World Championship in Ecuadole which the team was defeated in the group league.

In 1995, SHINJI entered Shimizu Syougyou highschool and when he was in the high, the name SHINJI ONO became famous among the soccer press and fans. When he graduated the highschool, all the 16 J-league teams offered the contract to him and he chose URAWA RED DIAMONDS finally.
Only a month after the graduation SHINJI made debut (as starting 11) in the opening game of 1998 J-League and in the next game, vs YOKOHAMA FLUGELS, He made the very first goal as a professional player. He was really the HOPE of Japanese soccer fans. In fact, a week after the first goal, SHINJI joined Japan National Team for WORLD CUP FRANCE'98.

In 1999,SHINJI led Japan National Youth Team (U-20) as a CAPTAIN to win the second place in World Youth Championship NIGERIA'99 and was voted into the tournament's best 11. However, in July 1999 he tore the ligaments in his left knee in the Asian qualification matches for the Sydney Olympics. He came back to the ground in NOV, but URAWA REDS, the team he belongs, relegated to J2.

In 2000, SHINJI struggled to get Reds back into J1, but in fact, he was not in the good condition all through the season and wasn't elected to the member of the Sydney Olympic team (U-23 national team).

In 2001,SHINJI returned to full health and excellent form and moved to Holland in August to play for Feyenoord. He has now established himself as a valuable team member.

SHINJI'S HISTORY has just begun and the BEST is yet to come.
