5. Additional designs to enhance comfort
while typing
I introduce additional designs to avoid the twist operation at the wrist and to avoid unnecessary forearm/elbow movement for more comfortable typing.
■Bring the thumb key near the key operator
An additional solution to bring the key used by the thumb close to its floating tip is bringing the thumb key near the key operator, because the thumb is away from the normal key area in the natural hand position.
This simple key arrangement will bring the thumb key closer to the floating
tip of the thumb.
■Bring the cursor key group near the extended imaginary line of the home
position key
Generally, the cursor key group is located at the lower right hand corner of the key area in order to save space. However, for the purpose of being user-friendly, the cursor key group should be brought near the extended imaginary line of the home position key.
If the cursor key group is located here, the key operator can bring his/her
right hand from the alphabet key area to the cursor key group with the
elbow as a fulcrum. The key operator will then be able to strike the cursor
key without moving his/her elbow, which is an unnecessary and stress-producing
movement.
